The Black family was built on multiple generations in the electronics manufacturing industry that has earned major customers such as Hewlett-Packard (HP) and IBM. Glidden Property SRL, is a recently formed eco-development company that acquired a property in the Municipality of Jarabacoa, La Vega Province. The property consists of one hundred and four thousand five hundred and fifty-six square meters of land (104,556m2). The owners of the company are David Black, Kathleen Black and Justin Black, who have lived in the Dominican Republic for over 20 years. The owners saw the need to develop an ecological community, built using the processes of permaculture agriculture. The company plans to develop an eco-community that will target middle-class locals and foreigners who might otherwise find Dominican Republic resort communities too expensive. The company plans to subdivide the land into 43 lots for sale, either as lots or built houses at a very competitive market price.
